Narration in Series and Matrices

Some excerpts from Bernard Tschumi's famous Manhattan Transcripts. What is a transcript? How do these representations tell about the space and the event which takes place ? The whole thing is an attempt to narrate a murder/murders in New York City. The event takes place in a park, in a block, in a tower, ... How are the frames used?

From Tschumi:

"... The role of the Transcripts is never to represent; they are not mimetic. So, at the same time, the buildings and events depicted are not real buildings or events, for distancing and subjectivity are also themes of the transcription. Thus the reality of its sequences does not lie in the accurate transposition of the outside world, but in the internal logic these sequences display." Bernard Tschumi, The Manhattan Transcripts, St. Martin’s press (1981),

"... A program is never neutral. The people who draft it are full of preconceptions. The first thing an architect needs to do is dismantle that program and redirect it. As an architect, you need to have an agenda….Events are different from programs. A program relies on repetition and habit; it can be written down and be prescriptive. In contrast, an event occurs unexpectedly, but you do not design the event. " -Bernard Tschumi, Praxis, Issue 8

dizi kesitlerle mimari temsil: Kentin Girdapları /Mardin

Kentin sokaklarında dolaş, ne görüyorsun? kesitlerle anlatmaya çalış. Yapıların arasında dolaşan boşluklar dizisi nasıl değişiyor? insanların bu rotalar boyunca dolaşırken nerelerden geçiyorlar? geçtikleri boşlukların karakteri nasıl? Duvarlar, tavanlar, sokaklar, merdivenler, geçitler, tonozlar, dehlizler, ... insanlarla birlikte çizdiğimizde nasıl görünüyor?

Mardin Artuklu Üniversitesi Mimarlık Bölümünde Zeynep Ataş ve Nizam Sönmez'in stüdyosundan örnekler: Ekim 2015

fairy tales: when architecture tells stories

"...Blank Space’s first edition of Fairy Tales: When Architecture Tells a Story is a light-hearted reminder that communication is at the core of what all architects and designers do. The book is a collection of entries from the company’s first architectural storytelling competition, which was launched to reinstate a dialogue between architects and the public.
Fairy tales might seem like an odd genre of choice for this movement, but communication also lies at their core. According to the founders of Blank Space, Matthew Hoffman and Frencesca Giuliani-Hoffman, fairy tales are “relatable, yet sophisticated and nuanced, just like great architecture.”
he first iteration of Blank Space’s Fairy Tale Competition received over 300 entries from 50 different countries. The competition was not prescriptive in any way – there was no assigned typology, scope, location, or budget. Instead, Blank Space asked applicants to challenge themselves creatively and think beyond the boundaries of their profession. Needless to say, this produced some amazing results.
The book seamlessly weaves together stories with different architectural meanings and formats, including coming of age tales, comic book strips, classic love stories, and sci-fi thrillers. The stories cover delightfully disparate topics, including Alice in Wonderland finding herself trapped in a modern dystopian city and colorful bouquets of flowers growing into skyscrapers...."

Examples: some architectural narratives

The examples are not directly related to your work, but they might give some ideas in terms of technique, style, drawing, framing, or telling a story,..... :)
